The Vent!

AHHHHH……the heating vents. I don’t know why I didn’t discover these years ago. There is nothing like having a warm a toasty belly. In the winter when the sunny spots in this house are few and far between, the vents are the place to be.

Sophie on the VentI’ve got this down to a science as well. Not all the vents in the house are good because if it’s open too much, the “breeze” can be a bit annoying. The ones mostly closed off are perfect because heat still comes through, warms the metal but doesn’t give me a blast of air.

The best time to get on is at about 5:30 in the morning. That seems to be when the auto timing on the system kicks on higher so the house is warmer when everybody else gets up…..so the heat stays on for longer periods of time. I took a picture of myself in my favorite spot - this was hard to get mind you because I had to set the darn timer on the camera.

Now the number two spot isn’t so bad either for a couple of reasons as you can seeSophie's Vent here in this photo I took. Nice closed off vent, but within easy paws reach of being able to continue to ruin and scratch the couch. I’m nicely hidden so I’m not in easy reach to shoo away. I can lay back there and really, really annoy mom as I lightly “pick” at the back of the couch. Now that I think about it, this may actually be number one vent, if only for that reason.

I wonder what these vents do in the summer?????

Family

Hello world!

I’m Sophie. I’m a cat.

My family is really into blogging. I got a bit tired of them constantly on the computer so I thought, “Why not start my own blog and tell the world what it’s like to be a cat!”.

I was adopted into this family almost 8 years ago. I like to just forget what happened before I got here, but let’s just say, I was “altered” in August and adopted in September. When I arrived at my new home I was pretty scared. There was another cat, Pumpkin, who seemed to rule the roost. Rumor had it he had been around since their honeymoon. How lame is that? Bring a CAT home from your honeymoon????

Then there was this REALLY annoying dog named Rusty. He seemed a little coo coo if you ask me. I could easily beat the crap out of him. What kind of dog is scared of a cat?

When I first came home, thank god they changed my name. Who in their right mind would name a cat Tasha. I mean, look at me, do I look like a Tasha? Thankfully they changed my name to Sophie.

My new family, if we don’t count the other two “pets”, consisted of Shane, my “dad”, Jodi, my “mom” and Dylan, my….not sure. Was he my brother or another kitten? He was a kid and at the time he was 8 years old. What an annoying age.

Sophie the cat So that was my start. I haven’t had it too bad. Over the years, I’ve managed to slowly get rid of the other animals in the house. First the old cat. Then the crazy dog. Not sure what really happened to them. They got old, were here one day, gone the next. It seems to be a good system so I’m working on getting rid of the kid next. He’s 14 and seems to be hanging in there longer than the others. My goal is to have him out no later than 4 more years. I do like his lap though so we’ll have to see how that goes…..

I know you might think that a blog by a cat would be a real sleeper. Stay tuned - you have no idea what we REALLY do…..
